Thing 23 Feedback

Thank you Jason for giving us a chance to go through 23 library things. I read about Library 2.0 and briefly I had read about them for my subject “Research Skills 2”, but it was amazing to go through them. I learned a lot and most of these things I will use in the future. The things I liked most are: Blog, Youtube, Google products, delicious, wiki, and Flicker. If you offer another program like this I would participate. I really enjoyed 23 library things.

Thing 22 Library 2.0

Library 2.0 is the term used to describe a new set of concepts for developing and delivering library services”. Technologies are changing so fast these days and that is why it is important for library staff to know about the web 2.0 tools. Technologies provide new opportunities for libraries to reach out and enhance their services. With introduction of these new technologies, communication methods have changed the way people interact and use their leisure time, and libraries must meet the expectations of the user.

Thing 21 iGoogle

iGoogle is really fabulous. I added the following gadgets: Google Map Search, Google Book Search, Google Docs and Spreadsheet, Weather, Gmail email account, Currency Converter, Facebook, and Australian sport. In the future I am going to use it.

Thing 18, 19, 20 Google products

Google Book Search - I used Google book search during my course and for the first time when I searched about the books it was really exciting. I use it very often now, especially to keep myself up to date with new published books. Some of the books are limited viewing but some I can access in full text.

Google Map - Google map is really amazing. Not just to find roads but things like: photos, videos and wikipedia too, which provides information about the places. Google maps help to explore the beautiful places. It is really fun to play around with “Google map”.

Google Docs-I created a new document on Google docs and it was easy and interesting. I will use it for my notes. It is really good to use because I can access documents from any PC.

Thing 17 Explore social networking

MySpace - Reading about “MySpace and teens in public libraries” was interesting. I think that would be a great spot to start for public libraries to get teens’attention. The ideas I read there were fabulous, like ‘Search catalogue”; Homework Help”; “Ask a librarian” it would work to gain their attention. Also, putting “Surveys” on “My space” would help to find what exactly they are interested in. Maybe the library would become a “real friend” for teenagers. I herd about Myspace, but I never would have thought to use it for educational purposes.

Face book – I created an account on facebook, but I don’t think I am going to use it, but ‘steel’ is a great tool to communicate with family and friends.
